The accident that occurred this morning near the Port of Bilbao, in Santurtzi, ended tragically. The driver of the tanker truck loaded with gasoline, which caught fire this Tuesday on the N-644, before the Mamariga tunnels, has died in the accident.

The event occurred around 8:50 a.m. this Tuesday, near the Mamariga tunnels, which give access to the port facilities. A truck that was traveling on the N-644, loaded with gasoline, has started to burn and, as a consequence, its driver has lost his life.

The fire has forced access to the port to be cut off and, although the vehicles try to drive towards Santurtzi, taking an exit on the A-8, at 10:00 a.m. significant traffic jams were recorded in the area.

In fact, access to the Port of Santurtzi through that road was still closed to traffic at 10:00 a.m., according to sources from the Basque Department of Security.
