Autonomous deputy Verònica Ruiz; the mayor of Vistabella, Jordi Alcón; that of Xodos, Miguel Ferrer or the councilor of Castellón Pau Sancho have left, along with a dozen more militants, Iniciativa, as Radio Castellón Cadena Ser has announced. The party that forms part of Compromís and that was once led by Mónica Oltra is thus left without a head in the province of Castellón, where its implementation was already very punctual.
As Alcón explained to La Vanguardia, all of them will join the military directly in Compromís and not in any of the other two parties that are part of the coalition: the majority party Més Compromís and the token party Els Verds. The reasons: “The discomfort with the current leadership” which they accuse of not having paid attention to this concern in part of the militancy and the “need for a change” which, in their opinion, involves betting on a “single team which is Compromís and not three different ones” (in reference to the three parties that form the coalition).
These resignations are added to the trickle of casualties that occurred in October, among them that of the former vice mayor of Valencia, Sergi Campillo. Alcón recognizes that these resignations were what made them consider whether or not to continue in the Initiative.
The party leadership remains silent and prefers not to make any assessments about these casualties until the executive meeting next Monday. Party sources do deny having neglected this group of militants and recall that, for example, the Castellón councilor was re-elected as a candidate despite having lost the primaries.
However, they are not surprised by these movements, although they do not understand why they have not waited to defend their position at the next party assembly scheduled for February 24 in Paterna. A conclave that is presumed key to the future of the organization (and of Compromís as a whole) and to which the organization arrives quite weakened after the trickle of resignations.
