The General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) has today requested the Senate to grant an extension, for a period of fifteen days and with effect from January 24, 2024, for the preparation of the report requested for the proposed Amnesty Law for institutional, political and social normalization in Catalonia.
This has been agreed by the Permanent Commission of the body of judges, after studying the development of parliamentary procedures in the Congress of Deputies. Yesterday the lower house voted against the amendments to the entirety presented by the PP and Vox. The partial votes will then be presented, before sending the proposal to the Senate for debate and voting.
At the beginning of December, the Senate Board, where the PP has an absolute majority, agreed to request reports from the CGPJ and the Fiscal Council on the amnesty law registered in Congress and that the PSOE has agreed with the Catalan independence parties.
The PP asserted its majority in the Senate Board to approve this report request. This amnesty law does not have mandatory reports as it is a bill registered in Congress, although the PP sought for bodies such as the CGPJ to rule on the constitutionality of this norm.
