The PSC is “delighted”, in the words of its leader, Salvador Illa, that Catalonia has more powers in immigration, as agreed between Junts and the central government in the negotiations to save the first decrees of the Government of Pedro Sánchez in the new legislature, but remember that the important thing is to “manage” them correctly. So the Catalan socialists bless the agreements, especially on this matter, and that Junts has finally decided to do “useful politics” after the years of the process, something that in their opinion “will unite us more.”
In a press conference from Santa Coloma de Gramenet, where the island’s so-called alternative government has held a working day, the parliamentary spokeswoman, Alicia Romero, has
positively valued that Junts has decided to “do useful politics”, agreeing to negotiate and process the Government’s decrees. The leader has applauded the change in attitude of Carles Puigdemont’s party, taking into account that in the last legislature, the post-convergents were always inflexible, voting to reject all the anti-crisis decrees of the central Executive.
The socialists’ joy at Junts’ turn is not without sarcasm, since Romero recalled that “the independence movement has been confused in recent years”, but “if they now decide that the best thing is to do useful politics, we will be happy.”
The spokesperson has criticized the lack of dedication of the two large pro-independence parties, which have governed in coalition during the process, to issues that are now of special importance, such as water cycle infrastructure or improvements in the educational system. “It is obvious that they have not been too involved in these issues. If now Junts, ERC or any party decides that the best thing they can do is useful politics, we are happy, because this means that it will have a benefit for the citizens,” she insisted. .
According to Romero, “it is good that the parties decide to do useful politics because this will surely unite us more, instead of constantly being in sterile debates that do not provide answers to the problems of citizens,” he remarked.
Regarding the immigration powers to the Generalitat agreed by Junts with the PSOE, Romero has been in favor of Catalonia having “better self-government”, but has warned that “it is not a question of having powers, but of managing them well.” For the PSC, the important thing will be to clarify “how” the transfer is done and “what scope it has” to be able to manage it appropriately, but he recalled that Catalonia has many powers in other matters and, in his opinion, the “note” does not It is satisfactory in all cases.
Furthermore, the spokesperson has questioned certain speeches by Puigdemont’s party on immigration: “Sometimes we have heard Junts make statements that are not in the line that we would like,” she noted, in reference to the demand of some mayors. post-convergents of Maresme to expel foreigners who are repeat offenders.
Romero has also regretted Podemos’s vote against the decree to reform unemployment benefits and has attributed it to partisan interests.
