Daniel Sancho is a few weeks away from the trial that will determine his future. Everything will take place between April 9 and May 3, in 15 days through which 57 witnesses will pass, 27 of them from the defense of the accused. Rodolfo Sancho’s son faces a possible death penalty for the alleged murder of Edwin Arrieta in Thailand.

The chef confessed to having killed and dismembered the Colombian surgeon, for which he has remained in Koh Samui prison since then. Even so, advised by his defense in Spain, he has only admitted to one of the three crimes accused of him: that of hiding the body. With this he rejects premeditated murder and the destruction of other people’s documentation.

And the main strategy of Daniel Sancho’s lawyers is to get the premeditation removed in order to avoid the capital punishment. A defense, made up of the firm Chippirrás-Balfagón and Marcos García-Montes, who wanted to offer a surprise press conference against the clock to show their discontent with what they denounce as “irregularities” by the Thai police.

The three lawyers have appeared in Madrid, in one of the rooms of García-Montes’ own office. This was the first time they have spoken together. And it has been Carmen Balfagón who has focused on commenting on her dissatisfaction with the police action in the case.

“We have all known since August 5 that Daniel had confessed to all the extremes of what the police wanted him to confess, but that was not what Daniel confessed,” the lawyer said. And, as they wanted to make clear, they have “full confidence” in Thai justice, but it seems to them that “the actions of the police are a disgrace.”

And, for the defense, there are clear “irregularities” from the first moment. “From minute one they tell him that there will be a deportation and he sees that they are going to deport him. Therefore, they say if you collaborate, obviously, tomorrow or the day after, you will be in Spain,” said Balfagón. Something that finally did not happen.

Likewise, the defense has revealed what, according to them, Daniel Sancho said in his first conversation with the agents: “There was an attempted sexual assault, he defended himself, and said fight resulted in the death of the victim. he says in minute one. And why do we know that he says it? Because there are recordings that confirm it.”

And if there is one thing they are going to strive to prove, it is the non-premeditation of the murder. “Daniel did not buy anything to kill anyone, he already said that he bought that material to make some cooking videos,” the lawyers have pointed out. “He never confessed that he had killed Mr. Arrieta,” they added. With this, they want to highlight the actions of the Thai police.
