One of Carrie Bradshaw’s most iconic pieces is, without a doubt, the white tutu in which she appears in the title of Sex and the City. In the first seconds of the series, the writer played by Sarah Jessica Parker wears this piece of white tulle combined with a pale pink bodysuit, an outfit that is already part of fashion history.
The series’ stylist, Patricia Field, explained a few years ago that she purchased this garment for only six euros in a New York showroom. Chance wanted her to save it for this production that premiered in 1998. But the directors did not like the skirt at first, and they refused to let the protagonist appear on the headline with this design.
They finally agreed to the stylist’s request and Bradshaw ended up wearing this tulle skirt that is now up for auction for $12,000, which is equivalent to about 10,900 euros. The house Julien’s Auctions has included this legendary design in Unstoppable, a selection that has dresses worn by other celebrities such as Diana of Wales, Audrey Hepburn, Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian.
The tutu is not the only piece from Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe that can be bid on on January 18. Fans can find a version of the dress with the original newsprint print that John Galliano designed for Dior and that the protagonist wears at various times.
Other pieces that are part of this auction are the black and white Catherine Walker dress that Princess Diana of Wales wore in 1985 at a private event; Dolce fantasy pants
