After the surprise of his signing for Mediaset, the moment of truth has arrived for Carlos Franganillo. Next Monday he will be the sole leader of Informativos Telecinco in its 9 p.m. edition after more than five years presenting RTVE’s Telediario 2. “It is great news that a company like Mediaset focuses its future strategy on news, it is good news for citizens,” the journalist said this morning during the presentation to the media of the new stage of the news services of the chain.
Franganillo has advanced that “there are things that are maintained and others that are renewed, it is not a break” with the previous stage and has specified that in the editorial office, “the raw material”, the information, was already being worked on very well, but they will increase the coverage. “We are going to be in more places and at big events. It will be a journey taking the viewer by the hand, beyond technology.”
The new director of Telecinco News has stated that his responsibility is to “tell what happened” and “put on the brakes” to offer a panoramic view of what is happening “beyond the anecdote or a more emotional reaction”, at a time in which citizens are often “overwhelmed” by “thousands of stimuli, some reliable, others toxic.”
After defending that “in a democracy different models” and information must coexist with its editorial line, he was convinced that “you don’t have to be in a trench to be successful” because “success belongs to those who build a good informative story.” Furthermore, he said he noticed among citizens “a certain fatigue with hyperpoliticization” and advanced that, from the first day “the story of the day will take center stage.” That is why he is clear about what he wants his program to be: objective, credible, pedagogical and modern, adapted to the times.
During the season, he has advanced, there will be some monographic news programs and although he has not revealed any in particular, he has pointed out that this year offers “many opportunities” such as notable anniversaries, regional elections, European elections or those in the United States. And he has insisted that “the idea is to be at all those big events.”
Regarding his departure from TVE, Franganillo has stated that he was “very comfortable” in the public channel but this proposal arose “without a doubt very attractive.” However, what ended up “pushing” him was the professional project of Telecinco where the news programs want to be the “backbone.” He has described his farewell to TVE as “polite, civilized and very affectionate” but at the same time “painful” because he had a “really good time” there and he leaves “with a very good taste in his mouth.”
Franganillo, who replaces Pedro Piqueras after 18 years at the head of Telecinco news, also wanted to have a few words of gratitude for this journalist, “one of the few information professionals in Spain who concentrates so much respect and so much independence and whose reference will serve as a guide.”
In this new stage, which will have a renovated set with 210 square meters of screens, Ángeles Blanco and Isabel Jiménez will present the News from Monday to Friday at 3 p.m. In addition, Blanco will be in charge of being on set in the 9pm edition when Franganillo is absent. David Cantero, José Ribagorda and Leticia Iglesias will present on the weekends and the morning edition will feature Laila Jiménez and Arancha Morales.
