Frederick is now king of Denmark. This afternoon, the one who until now was prince of the Danish kingdom has been officially proclaimed monarch after the sudden abdication of his mother, Queen Margaret II, who had reigned over the country for more than half a century.

The ceremony at Christianborg Castle has brought together a crowd expectant for the change of monarch and also excited for the farewell as queen of Margaret, Frederick’s mother and a great royal reference in recent years in the country.

Already proclaimed as Frederick

“Over half a century it has followed the times with our common heritage as its starting point. She will always be remembered as an unusual regent. My mother, like few others, has managed to become one of her own with her kingdom. Today the throne passes. I hope to be a king who knows how to unify,” she explained.

To conclude his first speech as king, Frederick X referred to his wife Mary after months of marital crisis: “It is a task that I have faced all my life. It is a responsibility that I assume with respect, pride and great joy. I will endeavor to carry it out with your trust. I will need all the support I can get from my beloved wife, my family, you, and that which is greater than us. “I face the future with the certainty that I am not alone,” he stated.

On the other hand, Frederick has chosen a very significant motto that will mark his reign: “United, committed, for the Kingdom of Denmark”, a phrase that is a tradition in the Danish crown to use by each of the monarchs who has reigned in the country.
