Frederick Once the former monarch has signed her resignation and left Christiansborg Castle, the seat of government and Parliament, by car, the new sovereign went out onto the balcony to celebrate the occasion together with his wife Mary and four children, Christian, Elizabeth, Josephine and Vincent.

The castle square was filled with thousands of spectators who have waited for hours to see the king who will rule for years to come. The cold has marked this special day in Copenhagen, but royal fans did not want to miss this historic moment.

The Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, was in charge of proclaiming Frederick X at three in the afternoon. The king and his wife María have appeared full of joy and emotion, without stopping when it comes to showing their joy and love. Federico shed some tears, just as he gave a kiss full of passion to María, who was wearing a beautiful all-white look.

This gesture has shocked the public, since it is far from the distant image that the monarchs have shown in recent days, after the scandal over an alleged infidelity with the Mexican actress Genoveva Casanova.

In his first words in office, Frederick X has expressed his desire to unite the entire country: “My mother has been, like few others, one with her kingdom. I hope to be a unifying king.” Along these same lines, he has spoken of Margaret II as “an unusual regent” and has pointed out that she will need the “support of his beloved wife and family.”
