The head of the Court of Instruction number 4 of Pamplona has filed the complaint for the racist insults that the Real Madrid player Vinícius Júnior received at the El Sadar stadium on February 18, 2023. The judge considers that the facts “could constitute crime”. However, he has filed the case due to the impossibility of identifying its authors.
In the order, which can be appealed, the magistrate agrees to the end of the criminal procedure after the police failed in their investigation to find out the identity of the author of the insults. “From what was done, it is clear that the facts could constitute a crime, but there is not enough data to know the identity of the perpetrators,” the letter specifically states.
This judicial procedure began by virtue of the complaint filed by the Professional Football League for a possible criminal offense committed on February 18 of last year during the match played between Osasuna and Real Madrid.
The Brazilian Vinícius Jr has been the victim of racist insults in different Spanish stadiums. This is what happened in Mestalla on May 21 of last year, events for which the merengue player testified in court. On that occasion, Valencia announced the expulsion “for life” of the followers who uttered the insults.
Something similar happened on the Sevilla field. The Andalusian club expelled a fan and filed a police complaint after the spectator allegedly showed “xenophobic and racist behavior” against Vinícius Júnior.
