The Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, has summoned the Minister of Environment and Interior of the Community, Carlos Novillo, to an urgent meeting on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. with the DGT, Civil Guard and whoever is considered from the Madrid’s community.
In this way, Martín has responded to a letter sent yesterday by Novillo, to which Europa Press has had access, in which he shows his “concern” about the situation “of confusion” created during these last two weekends, in the access to the mountain passes of the Community of Madrid.
The counselor reminds you that, in light of last year’s experience, it was revealed in separate meetings held with all the actors involved, on November 15, December 4 and 18, 2023, as well as on January 11 of this year. year, the need to execute “the filtering procedure for access to said mountain passes, as the best way to organize traffic flow.”
“As you well know, this filtering consists, always in coordination with the Civil Guard, in which, in the first instance, the civil protection officers of the ERIVE, ask the drivers if they have any reservations, both for restaurants, accommodation, ski slopes. skiing, as if they are in transit towards the Segovian side. If they respond affirmatively, in a second phase, the Civil Guard verifies this information, allowing them to travel, if applicable,” he explains to the delegate.
But the opposition to carrying out this filtering procedure, Novillo continues in the letter, has meant, on the one hand, the “impossibility” for workers and personnel of the infrastructures, facilities and services located in said ports, to be able to access their Job positions; and, on the other hand, “concern and concern on the part of businessmen from the different facilities due to the possibility that significant economic damage could occur.”
For this reason, he asks Martín to reconsider his proposal to execute the filtering procedure “as the best possible operation” to facilitate access to the region’s mountain passes, “encouraging citizens to rationally, effectively and efficiently enjoy the entire natural ecosystem that makes up the Madrid mountains”.
The representative of the central government in Madrid already responded on social networks that “whoever gets up early, the effort helps.” “Access to ports and snow should not be preferred due to the capacity for prepayment. Orderly use of public transportation is always recommended,” he wrote.
Now, Francisco Martín calls on Carlos Novillo to attend this urgent meeting tomorrow with the Community agents he deems appropriate. The Ministry of the Environment and Interior has indicated that they still do not know the details of said call.
