Many brands are part of our lives to the point that they influence us without us realizing it. They determine the way we communicate, they shape the way we relate, the way we act or the perception that the rest of society has of ourselves. On many occasions, behind these brands there are people who marked a before and after. That is the case of the star car brand Mercedes-Benz, in which there were two women who marked the success of the firm until it became the most valuable luxury automobile company in the world in 2016.
The motor world changed thanks to two women: Bertha Benz and Mercedes Jellinek. Something paradoxical if we take into account that the automobile industry has traditionally been dominated by the male gender. Both revolutionized the motor sector and caused a change of era, the era of Mercedes-Benz.
Bertha Benz was a German pioneer in the motor sector. Benz is considered “the first woman to take a long-distance route driving a car,” according to Mycarready Tecnhnologies SL. For her part, Mercedes Adrienne Manuela Ramona Jelinek – her full name – was one of the daughters of Emil Jellinek, a businessman who marketed Daimler vehicles and also entered them in car races. In this way and in honor of her daughter, she entered the ‘Mercedes 35 PS’ in a race. This vehicle caused a sensation due to its extraordinary performance to the point of being considered the first prototype of a modern automobile. It was such a success that ‘Mercedes’ was registered as a brand in 1902. So why is it known as Mercedes-Benz today?
“In 1926 Daimler Motorengesellschaft (owner of the Mercedes brand) and Benz joined together.
Both women, Mercedes Jellinek and Bertha Benz, played roles that revolutionized motor history and contributed to the success and reputation that the Mercedes-Benz brand has today.
