The Princess of Wales has been admitted to The London Clinic since yesterday for planned abdominal surgery, an official spokesperson for Kensington Palace revealed this Wednesday. Prince William’s wife’s surgery has been a success but she is expected to remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days for observation.

As doctors have advised, Kate Middleton, 42, should not return to public duties until after Easter. The statement issued by Kensington Palace asks that “the public understand her desire to maintain as much normality as possible for her children; and her desire for her personal medical information to remain private.”

“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologize to all those affected for having to postpone her upcoming engagements. She hopes to reinstate as many as possible, as soon as possible,” the statement said. Likewise, Prince William is expected to postpone some of his scheduled engagements in the coming days and he is also expected to not perform official duties during Princess Catherine’s return home.

On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles III will go to hospital next week for a corrective procedure. As detailed by the monarch’s offices, he will receive treatment for an enlarged prostate. Therefore, the public engagements of Elizabeth II’s son will be postponed for a short recovery period.

The princess celebrated her birthday a little over a week ago. The princess is usually in good health, but she was previously admitted to the hospital while she was pregnant after suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, i.e. severe morning sickness. The Prince and Princess of Wales were believed to be planning a visit to Rome this spring, but the trip is now in doubt due to medical recommendations following the princess’s operation.
