The fire that broke out last night, after 12:30 a.m., in a home in Gandia ended up causing the death of a five-year-old girl, who was in the room most affected by the fire. Firefighters from the València Provincial Consortium acted at the apartment on Pintor Joan de Joanes Street in the Valencian town of Gandia, located on a ground floor, after a call alerting them to a lot of smoke. Nine people were injured in the event, four of them minors.

As explained by the provincial body, upon the arrival of the firefighters they quickly proceeded to extinguish the fire, which mainly affected a bedroom, where they located the victim. The rest of the family was already outside the house. The SAMU has certified the death of the 5-year-old girl who was in the most affected room.

Three teams of firefighters from Gandia and Oliva, the sergeant from Gandia and an officer from the Consortium worked on the extinction. After the fire was extinguished, it was the National Police that took charge of the situation.

Two units of the Urgent Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) and two of Basic Life Support (BLS) also intervened and treated, as a result of the fire, several people who had various injuries: a 40-year-old woman, a 47-year-old man, a 3 year old girl and a baby. The four have also been transferred to the San Francesc de Borja hospital in Gandia.

They have also treated a 41-year-old woman for an anxiety attack; a 24-year-old man from smoke inhalation; a 23-year-old woman due to burns; an 8-year-old child due to smoke inhalation and another under 22 months due to burns. All have been transferred to the San Francesc de Borja de Gandia Hospital.
