Although it premiered on television in 2000, the Pasapalabra program never goes out of style. This Saturday the grand final of Night of Champions was held, where two contestants, Orestes Barbero and Luis de Lama, competed to win a prize worth 25,000 euros.

This amount, however, could be quadrupled if the winner of the battle completed El Rosco. After participating in multiple tests, both reached the final challenge, in which at first they were very evenly matched but Barbero soon took the lead over his Madrid teammate. The man from Burgos got 19 letters right, while Luis de Lama had only got 9 words right.

Once the first round was finished, Barbero made a mistake on the letter J and answered “jaspe” instead of “jade.” “It is not the first time that this confusion between two stones has happened to me,” admitted the young man, who had already had some similar errors in the daily version of Pasapalabra.

In this situation, de Lama tried to catch up to his opponent and succeeded, answering 21 words correctly. At this point, he managed to get a little ahead of her, but he took a chance with a letter and missed. “I should have kept quiet. I miscalculated,” he admitted.

When they both reached the end of the Rosco, their result was identical: 22 hits and one error. Because of this situation, the program was forced to confront them with a Sudden Death that Orestes won. With the letter “R”, the presenter was asking various questions and the first one to fail lost.

Officially Orestes Barbero won the program, but he surprised everyone by offering his rival to share the 25,000 euros: “It was a technical tie in El Rosco. It was a stupid mistake by everyone. It was completely epic. This way of “solving it is more accidental than real. This money is mine by mere rule, not by justice and merit.”

And he added: “I love Luis very much and I will leave here happier if we distribute the prize. I will be much happier if we leave here with a tie and distribute it. I hope you accept it.” After these words, the presenter asked the contestants to decide off-camera and closed the program.
