Rosa Peral has acknowledged before the judge that she transferred ownership of the house she owned to her father so as not to lose it. The woman convicted of the crime by the Urban Police declared this Wednesday that she was being investigated for a crime of extortion of property, understanding that before the sentence was final she transferred half of the house she had in Vilanova i la Geltrú to her father in order to declare herself. insolvent and avoid compensating the victim. “We were going to lose the house because I couldn’t pay the mortgage, that’s why I named the house after my father,” Peral stated before the judge. The accused has admitted to changing her name and that this procedure was carried out a few days before the sentence for the crime by the Urban Police was final.
The sentence for the crime of her boyfriend, Pedro Rodríguez, sentenced Rosa Peral to a sentence of 25 years in prison for murder and the payment of compensation of 885,000 euros to be paid jointly with the other accused, Albert López. If she does not have this amount, her assets will be seized until the amount claimed is reached. However, six days before the Supreme Court met to issue the ruling, Rosa Peral transferred to her father 50% of the ownership of the house she shared with her ex-husband in Vilanova i la Geltrú, the address where she later lived with Pedro Rodríguez and where the crime was committed.
Peral summoned a notary to the Mas d’Enric prison, in Tarragona, where he is serving his sentence, to proceed with the name change. The victim’s family interpreted this ruse as a way to hide her assets and avoid paying the compensation to which she was sentenced. At the moment, Rosa has not paid a single euro to the victim’s family. Peral has also admitted that he was aware that the apartment was seized to face possible civil liabilities arising from the conviction.
His father, Francisco Peral, has also declared himself under investigation, who has expressed himself in the same terms and has explained that he agreed to take charge of half of the house to pay the mortgage. Their statement lasted just ten minutes and they were limited to answering questions from their lawyer, Núria González.
Judge Sonia Zapater Torres, head of the Investigative Court 5 of Tarragona, has bunkered Rosa Peral’s statement and has expressly warned the lawyers to refrain from making statements. Furthermore, she has moved the statement to a small room that was not the one in the court and without the appearance being recorded on video to avoid future leaks.
