The informal meeting in Fitur between Carlos Mazón, Emiliano García-Page, Fernando López Miras and Juanma Moreno Bonilla already has a name: “Fitur’s plot for the leveling fund.” This is how the president of the Generalitat Valenciana has named it, after confirming that the reform of the regional financing system has been part of the conversation that the four regional leaders had this morning at the Madrid tourism fair. “The four of us agree that in any case and, while a new financing system arrives, a leveling fund that at least equates us to those who are better off than us is irrevocable and fundamental,” said Mazón.

The head of the Consell has explained that “until the Government’s proposal arrives”, the fund is a priority for territories such as the Valencian Community, for which there is already a general consensus on its under-financing. “The Government makes a proposal that we continue to wait for, for those of us who are objectively treated worse we have to continue supporting healthcare and our social services,” he added.

A few weeks ago the Valencian president announced that there would be a summit with Murcia and Andalusia to address the reform of the financing system and added that Castilla-La Mancha could be added to it, meetings of which he has not given details today. He did acknowledge that there will be “a permanent dialogue” in which the councilors involved will participate, “with our economic teams. The dialogue will be permanent because there is a line of joint work, inalienable and a priority for the four,” he added.

The Minister of Finance, Ruth Merino, put a figure a few weeks ago on this leveling fund and put it at around 1.5 billion euros, according to the latest reports that the Commission of experts for the reform of the financing system will update soon. “Approving a leveling fund is simple; it is about wanting to do it and that is why I am going to ask for it where it is necessary, how it is necessary and to whomever it is necessary so that it is included in the 2024 PGE,” said the counselor.
