Since last April 28, the Hotel Arts Barcelona has hosted ROKA Barcelona, ??the contemporary Japanese cuisine restaurant with locations in different cities around the world. Guests and local clients of the emblematic 5-star hotel can exclusively enjoy this ephemeral concept that will last the 2023 summer season.
ROKA, the brainchild of co-founder and creator Rainer Becker, initially launched in London in 2004 and has since expanded to four restaurants in the English capital, as well as locations in Dubai, Istanbul and more. Becker is widely known for being the first to bring the Robata grill to Europe: a traditional Japanese cooking method inspired by fishermen who cook fish over charcoal on boats in the coastal waters of northern Japan.
The main cuisine, visible and in the center, comes from this traditional charcoal grill, robota, whose origin dates back to the fishermen of northern Japan, who cooked fish in boats with different embers. Without a doubt, an integral design element of the restaurant that the Japanese interior designer Noriyoshi Muramatsu has been able to use.
This new limited-time temple of gastronomy at the Hotel Arts Barcelona combines the successful concept of Japanese robotayaki cooking, the technique of cooking over charcoal, along with its personal approach to modern gastronomy, with the love for the local flavors of the land and the sea, and seasonal products, present in all the gastronomic proposals of the iconic hotel.
Open seven days a week exclusively for dinner service, its menu cannot miss its exceptional Wagyu sushi with Oscietra caviar, yellowtail tuna sashimi with yuzu and truffle dressing, or king crab and black cod dumplings and shrimp with roasted chili, impeccably presented. Among its dishes cooked on the Robata grill, seafood, meat and vegetables stand out, such as the exquisite sea bream fillet, miso and red onion or lamb chops with Korean spices and asparagus with sweet soy and sesame.
Equally sophisticated are their expertly prepared desserts, such as sweet miso crème bulée, roasted figs and pistachio ice cream. In addition, his menu has creative cocktails to relax while a DJ plays music for the warm Mediterranean nights.
“We are extremely excited about the arrival of ROKA to the Hotel Arts and the city of Barcelona. ROKA is an unparalleled gastronomic experience that will combine very well with the culinary attractions that Barcelona offers, creating an unparalleled concept,” says Andreas Oberoi, general director of Hotel Arts Barcelona.
For his part, Sven Koch, CEO of Azumi Ltd, adds: “We are delighted to make the debut of ROKA in Barcelona and to open the Hotel Arts Barcelona. The culinary scene in this city is so vibrant, where we see ROKA as at home, even if only for a short time. “We are looking forward to the summer season.”
ROKA Barcelona thus completes the magnificent summer offering hosted by Marina Coastal Club at the Hotel Arts Barcelona, ??a gastronomic destination par excellence in Barcelona, ??and joins the ROKA Group’s portfolio of restaurants, present in London (Charlotte Street, Shochu Lounge , Mayfair, Aldwych, Canary Wharf), Dubai, Riyadh and Kuwait, the second being temporary in Spain, after the success of ROKA Mallorca.
