In his editorial of January 16, 2024, the director of La Vanguardia, Jordi Juan, writes:

“(…) It has been a long time since the actions of the so-called “Patriotic Police” have begun to turn and have turned against their authors as if they were a boomerang (…) false evidence has been directly created to incriminate pro-independence citizens and We have been explaining some of these practices in recent months, but there is still a lot of dirt that has not been brought to light and this is the objective of the joint investigation that La Vanguardia and El Diario have launched. “.es (…) the practices carried out in the Ministry of the Interior (…) were not only against independence leaders, but also against political rivals who were not.”

In reality, the “Patriotic Police” is nothing more than the heir of the “Political Police” of Francoism, the feared Social Political Brigade. The Socials, as people called them. The most “select” of what the press has aptly called, “the sewers of the State.”

In these lines I am going to try to give a psychoanalytic vision of the issue by describing a pathological deviation of instincts: Perversion. We will study the Perverse with the help of the following parameters: the Oedipus Complex, the Thanatic Filicidal Mother, and the trickster Superego of Angel Garma.

All of this must be viewed against a backdrop: the secular stagnation of the development of the Spanish Dysfunctional Family in the oral and anal phases, with the consequences that this implies, widely described in previous writings (oral and anal character traits, and derivatives). pathologies of the same) so we will not repeat it here. The aforementioned writings are contained in the book Psychoanalysis of Dysfunctional Spain (Ed. Pensódromo, Barcelona 2023, by the author).

Although it was already described in Psychoanalysis of Oedipal Spain, we will briefly summarize it here, highlighting a partial aspect of it, which will make it possible to understand what will be said later, about Perversion.

Let us remember: Freud thus described the complex parent-child relationships, characterized by love-hate ambivalence, more accentuated between parents and children of the same sex.

The resolution of the Complex consists of a progressive predominance of Love over Hate, that is, of Eros (Life Instinct) over Thanatos (Death Instinct), as if the Good Bank merged the Bad Bank and cleaned up finances, we said.

The Oedipus Complex is completely normal, but there is a Neurotic and a Psychotic variant, which we described. The partial aspect that we have to highlight here is that the part of hatred that is part of the Complex generates a feeling of guilt, unconscious, but it is there. And it is this feeling that generates fear: the fear of punishment. And this punishment is Castration. This will appear when dealing with Perversion, and the Perverse as well as the psychotic variant of the Oedipus Complex.

We said in Psychoanalysis of Future Spain that there are mothers who, due to lack of mental health, cannot identify with the baby, and the baby cannot construct its identity. The mother, dominated by Thanatos due to her lack of health, transmits filicidal tendencies from unconscious to unconscious.

The child internalizes them and makes the Mother’s destructiveness his own. Rascovsky describes forms of attenuated filicide: absurd prohibitions, threats, emasculating attitudes, unjustified penalties, cruelty, physical or (and) verbal violence, despotic denials, insensitivity to suffering, or denigrating judgments.

An example is the fact of treating people and events as terrorists and terrorism, which have nothing to do with it. This internalized destructiveness is decisive in the behavior of the Pervert, as we will see when describing him. Let us remember the description that Ortega y Gasset makes of the Mother of the Spanish Dysfunctional Family, in his work España Invertebrada:

“Castilla becomes the most opposite of itself. It becomes suspicious (paranoid), narrow, sordid, and sour. It is no longer concerned with promoting the life of the other regions. Jealous of them, it abandons them to themselves, and They begin not to know what is happening in them.” Indeed, secessionism is spreading. (Psychoanalysis of secessionism in Spain).

Ángel Garma (Bilbao 1904 – Buenos Aires 1993) was the first Spanish psychoanalyst in history. A contemporary of Freud, he was congratulated by him, for his contributions to psychoanalytic research. He trained in Berlin. He founded the Argentine Psychoanalytic Society. There he is venerated. In Spain, he unknown. Let us summarize what is described in Psychoanalysis of Predictable Spain. The trap that the Deceiving Superego sets for the Ego to destroy it is a delusional fantasy of omnipotence.

They do this to satisfy their destructiveness, their desire for power, and their Oedipus Complex in a psychotic version: taking over the Motherland and possessing it in the worst of the senses; violate it, plunder it and ruin it. In psychoanalysis we only talk about Perversion in the strict sense, in relation to sexuality. But post-Freudian authors who admit the plurality of instincts have been induced to give the concept of Perversion a great breadth and multiply its forms: perversions of the moral sense (crime, which is what we are dealing with here), of social instincts ( Pimping), of the instinct of nutrition (Bulimia, Dipsomania).

In the same order of ideas, it is common to speak of Perversions or Perversity, to describe the character and behavior of certain subjects, which indicates a special cruelty or malignancy. This is how the Dictionary of Psychoanalysis by Laplanche-Pomntalis (Ed.Labor) speaks of the concept “Perversion” in an extensive article.

The Pervert is a sadist with a pathological sadism, derived from anal character traits that would have had to disappear if he had accessed the genital phase of development or adult maturity, as we described in previous writings. His Oedipus Complex has not been well resolved. Hate (Tanatos) predominates over Love (Eros). Here it is the “Bad Bank” that has merged the good one.

There has not been a loving reunion with the parents. There has been a pathological drift consisting of the desire, acted out through perverse action, to literally kill the Father-State (“the State is us”), the brothers (anyone who thinks differently) and sadistically possess the Mother -Homeland plundering it for personal benefit.

There is no conscious feeling of guilt, it is totally unconscious. And so is the fear of punishment: symbolically, castration (prison, deprivation of freedom, ruin, discredit, loss of power).

With his actions, the Perverse seeks to reassure himself against the fear of punishment. His action, Fenichel explains, means “I punish, so as not to be the one punished.” The sadist is a carrier of self-destructive tendencies from which he defends himself by “exporting” them outward, towards others. If he is able to do to others what he fears will be done to him, he no longer has to be afraid. By acting against those who are enemies for him because they think differently, he believes he increases his power and prestige, thereby neutralizing the fear of being the one punished, the one attacked.

In a James Bond film, one of the commanders of Her Majesty’s Secret Service, irritably says to “M”, the Supreme Chief: “You don’t have the balls to”… To which she, undaunted, responds: ” Better, so I won’t be tempted to use them to think.” We can paraphrase it: we better eliminate the sewers of the State so that no one is tempted to use them to govern.
