This afternoon the Civil Guard found the body of the 16-year-old boy who disappeared last Epiphany when he was sailing in a canoe with two other boys, who survived, in the Mar Menor.

The body of the minor, as the Civil Guard has informed EFE, was submerged at a depth of about 5 meters and at a distance of between 1,000 and 1,500 meters from the port of Los Alcázares.

Since his disappearance twenty days ago, a large effort has been trying to locate by land, sea and air the young man, Ivailo Petrov, of Bulgarian nationality, who went out at dawn to sail through the Mar Menor with two other boys, aged 17 and 22. , in a canoe, apparently stolen.

A resident of Los Alcázares who was walking along the port dock minutes after half past two in the morning on January 6 alerted 112 when he heard cries for help coming from the sea, which activated an initial search for the three occupants of the canoe by the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection and personnel from the yacht club, whose boat located the two survivors.

These young people, who were taken to the port and taken by ambulance to the hospital, said that they had gone sailing with a Bulgarian minor and that he did not know how to swim, something his mother confirmed this Monday at a press conference.

The mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Cervera, present this Thursday in Madrid for the celebration of the Day of the Region of Murcia in Fitur, told EFE that he has received the news of the discovery of the body of the family itself, and has expressed his condolences. of the entire Marmenorense municipality for what happened.

Cervera, returning to Los Alcázares to accompany the minor’s mother, mourned the death of Ivalo Petrov, “found in the sea, in the area where he had come from, and despite the doubts that had been generated” in recent days for the so far fruitless search and for the statements made by the mother about her “panic” of the water.
