Castelldefels has opened a new footbridge to traffic on the C-31 road. As reported this Thursday by the Department of Territory of the Generalitat of Catalonia, the action, which especially improves the situation of pedestrians and cyclists, involved an investment of 2.8 million euros.
The execution of these works has not been without controversy. And on January 15, the mayor of Castelldefels, Manu Reyes, filed a formal complaint about the delays in the execution of the work. He did so through a letter addressed to the General Directorate of Infrastructures requesting the end of the works and the opening of the bridge. Finally, the Generalitat put the new walkway into operation shortly after that complaint.
The new walkway, built parallel to the C-31 link overpass, allows for “configuring a continuous path for bicycles between the urban center and La Pineda beach,” the Government explained. In fact, the action, in addition to connecting neighborhoods with the coast, has importance beyond the local level, since this segregated bike lane is part of the Bicivia metropolitan network.
The new infrastructure has a length of 51 meters and a width of 3.3 meters. The space for cars has also been renovated. In fact, the opening of the bridge has allowed the passage of several bus lines to normalize. However, to complete the works 100%, some details still need to be finalized, something that is expected to be done in the coming weeks.
