I am sharing in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia these snapshots taken at 8 o’clock in the morning from the Masies de Voltregà, in the region of Osona, where we see the full moon of the wolf over Pedraforca.
Today, as the moon was setting, the sun was rising, it’s my favorite day! Starting at 2:54 p.m., it will be the official moment of the full moon and it is estimated that it will be around 6:54 p.m. this Thursday when the moment of greatest visibility will occur.
Pedraforca is an emblematic mountain of Catalonia, located within the area of ??the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park and which forms the border between the provinces of Barcelona and Lleida.
It has a very peculiar shape due to its two peaks separated by a large hill, which gives it its name. The northern summit is made up of two peaks: Pollegó Superior (2506 m) next to Calderer (2505 m). The south is made up of the Pollegó Inferior (2445 m). The closest towns are Gósol and Saldes. In 1982, it was declared a natural site of national interest by the Parliament of Catalonia.
The full moon of the first month of the year is known as the wolf moon since the Native American people associated this time with an increase in the howling of these animals around their villages.
It is believed that wolves took advantage of the moonlight to come out of their burrows and hunt, which is why this nickname ended up being given to the full moon in January. The next full moon of the year 2024 will be on February 24.
