Verónica Forqué was one of the most brilliant faces of the Spanish interpretive scene. An all-round actress and director, she shares with Carmen Maura the record for the most Goya nominations with a total of four. Both in film, television and theater, even in the dubbing of such iconic films as The Shining, she left an indelible mark that would end up fading on December 13, 2021.

However, his great love for cinematography came from the work of his father, José María Forqué, who was one of the most complete and versatile directors on the national scene. Since 1996, a year after he died, the Forqué Awards have been held, organized by the Audiovisual Producers’ Rights Management Entity (EGADA). However, a stumbling block has arisen in relation to these awards, and it is shared by Verónica’s daughter, María Forqué.

“Many people have asked me why I didn’t attend the Forqué Awards, I’m going to tell you: I didn’t attend because they didn’t invite me. To all the film people who follow me, I want you to know that what you are doing by supporting the Forqué Awards is supporting a company that appropriated my family’s surname. My grandfather and my mother and what the Forqués have left behind are all about the Forqué Awards. If this were not the case, the minimum would be to invite the only person who is his legacy,” he denounced.

María Forqué has made this forceful complaint through an Instagram story, without giving further details of what happened the last time she appeared after this message: “PS: not to mention how they treated me the last time I attended… ”. The reactions were in both spectrums of the terrain. “Is right. There are always shameless people who take advantage and ignore families,” complained one user.

“I don’t see that they continue to bring Goya’s relatives to the Goya Awards simply for that reason,” another message counterattacked. However, the ins and outs of this controversy remain a complete mystery. The last time María Forqué was present at the awards that bear her family’s surname was in 2022, a year after the death of her mother. Since then, controversy seems to have taken over this environment.

The last Forqué Awards gala took place on December 16, at the IFEMA Municipal Palace in Madrid. 20,000 Species of Bees and The Messiah took home the awards for best film and best series respectively, at a gala that opened the awards season for national productions. This will culminate on February 10 with the delivery of the Goya awards in Valladolid.
