No type of skin is exempt from suffering the ravages of cold and wind in winter. Even acne-prone faces find their complexion drier, more irritated and tight in the face of low temperatures. And this damage is even more aggravated in the case of dry and sensitive skin.

The cold dehydrates the skin, leaving it more vulnerable, more prone to cracking and even itching. With this, it loses luminosity and is less smooth, looks less healthy and not at all flattering. To this we must add that it may look red and the dreaded peeling may appear.

Fortunately, with a few simple tricks applied in your daily life you can counteract the effects of the cold and protect your skin, not only to keep it hydrated, but also to keep it looking radiant.

Focus your facial care routine on hydration. Make sure that all – or almost all – of the cosmetics you use include ingredients that nourish the skin, such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and squalane. If you have oily skin, you should also keep it hydrated, you just have to look for formulas that are non-comedogenic (that is, they do not clog the pore). Incorporate a nourishing mask once or twice a week to reinforce the action of your skincare routine.

Opt for moisturizing textures such as cleansers and serums in oil formulas and consistent, dense creams. Apply your cosmetics with a gentle massage and wait until your moisturizer has been completely absorbed before applying your makeup. Remember to put on sun protection, because even in winter ultraviolet radiation damages and dries out your skin. Don’t neglect internal hydration either, drinking plenty of water and eating fruits and vegetables rich in water.

Exfoliating the skin helps eliminate dead cells and promotes cell regeneration, helping to even out the tone, combat imperfections and helping the skin to better absorb the following cosmetics.

But if you abuse it, you will be drying out and irritating the skin more, as you will damage its protective barrier. If you have dry skin, do it once a week or even every 15 days, while if your complexion is oilier you can exfoliate it twice a week.

You probably notice your skin looking juicy when you leave the house with a freshly done facial routine, but throughout the day you notice how your skin dries out. How to hydrate it if I already have makeup on? Your two allies will be mists that refresh and moisturize the skin, and sunscreen in mist format, which in addition to reinforcing protection against the sun’s rays will also add an extra layer of hydration.

Don’t forget to take care of your lips and hands, which also suffer a lot from the cold. Always carry lip balm or Vaseline with you to reapply throughout the day. On your hands, a generous layer of unscented nourishing cream each night will help keep them soft.
