Netflix has bad news for those who are fed up with delays in American series. The writing, filming and post-production processes of the series have been lengthened, partly due to the ambition of the productions and partly to accommodate other projects in the agendas of those involved. But, also, in 2023 there was a screenwriters’ strike and an actors’ strike that paralyzed Hollywood. The result? Neither Stranger Things nor Wednesday will premiere their new seasons in the remainder of the year.

The teen drama with Jenna Ortega, for example, has not yet filmed a scene for the second season. The cameras will start rolling at the end of April in Ireland, after filming moved from Romania. Initially, the characteristics of the series allowed us to believe that it could have a first batch of episodes ready for October, when the second anniversary of its launch will be celebrated.

After all, it does not require a post-production process as intense and demanding as Stranger Things and the creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, are used to working with times typical of free-to-air television, after creating and producing Smallville.

But, for now, its return in time for Halloween is ruled out, as is Stranger Things, which in January already brought the team together in Georgia (United States) to film the final season. In short, the science fiction series with Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown, by moving to 2025, will have spent another three years absent from televisions.

They are not the only ones. In 2024, new episodes of One Piece, the adaptation of the manga that obtained good audience data this past summer, will also not be available, and the third season of Ginny and Georgia, last year’s teenage phenomenon and the second most original series, will also not be available. platform view in the first half of 2023: the second season accumulated 665 million hours viewed during the first half.

With a lower but useful profile for the company, the low-cost dramas Sweet Magnolias and A Place to Dream, focused on female and American audiences, will also be absent.

What returns does this leave us with? Well, with the second season of The Squid Game, the most watched series in the history of Netflix, the third of Bridgerton, the end of Cobra Kai, the fourth of Emily in Paris, the second of The Diplomat and The Night Agent as dishes powerful.

The night agent is also important. When Netflix surprised with the publication of consumption data for the first half of 2023, it led the list with 812 million hours watched among subscribers.
