Nothing has yet been clarified about the almost movie-like wine theft that three men perpetrated in broad daylight in a well-known large Empordà wine store more than half a year ago.

The Mossos d’Esquadra managed to identify the perpetrators of the assault, who are fleeing outside Spain, although they did not want to reveal information about the identity, address or nationality of the thieves. The bottles have not been recovered. The thieves, who have an arrest warrant, managed to steal a large loot, valued at 111,343 euros, from the Vins i Licors Grau store in Palafrugell (Baix Empordà).

Jordi Grau, deputy to the management of the establishment, has expressed to La Vanguardia his resignation regarding this case. He is relieved by the fact that they collected the cost of the bottles from the insurance company. He has no doubt that the robbery was commissioned “since in the security camera images you can see how one of the thieves tells another which bottles he had to take.” As a result of this case, the company installed a new acoustic alarm that they had already hired after another robbery attempt they suffered last April.

The three thieves entered the Grau family store, which was full of customers on a Sunday at 12:30 p.m. They remained there for a long time before striking the blow. They stole up to nine bottles, most of them from the Burgundy winery Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, one of the most famous brands in the world. The thieves fled with the wine loot in a Citroën C-3, which they had parked about 200 meters from the establishment. In their hasty escape, one of them lost a fanny pack with personal belongings and documentation, and they also dropped a mobile phone and two suction cups with which they opened the display case where the most valuable bottles were displayed. Those responsible for the business managed to write down the license plate and provided the Mossos d’Esquadra with the images from the store’s security cameras.

The most expensive bottle stolen was Romanée-Conti pinot noir from the 2008 vintage, valued at 29,950 euros. They also stole a 2013 Romanée-Conti, whose price amounts to 25,659 euros. From this same winery they stole La Tâche from 2015, which sells for 12,699 euros, or the legendary Bordeaux Château Pétrus from 2016, which is on display for 5,702 euros.
