If you arrive late, you have to do it with style. Or be Meryl Streep, because it doesn’t matter if the Oscar-winning actress arrives early or late, because her presence will be applauded whatever the occasion. The performer was one of the presenters at the Grammy Awards ceremony, and she was also one of those in charge of announcing one of the most important winners of the night, Best Recording of the Year.

The actress presented with her son-in-law, the well-known British producer Mark Ronson, but while he was sitting at the table when the gala began, her mother-in-law had not arrived. Trevor Noah, host of the gala, began his monologue, and just when he was next to the table where the actress was supposed to be, she appeared, interrupting the monologue and earning a standing ovation from the audience.

“Look, here’s Mark Ronson, one of the greatest producers of all time. And guess what, his mother-in-law is going to sit here. Do you know who she is? Meryl Streep. One of the best Meryl Streeps of all time. No “I can’t believe she’s going to be here,” said Noah, who saw how his monologue was interrupted by the audience, who were just applauding the actress, who skipped to her seat.

“And you thought I was going to be late,” Noah said, after giving a small bow to the actress, who greeted him with a kiss and apologized to the presenter.

“You don’t have to apologize to me,” the popular South African comedian and journalist insisted.

The actress did not appear at the gala by chance or to accompany her son-in-law, who by the way had accumulated a whopping six award nominations – and married to her daughter, Grace Gumner -; but her presence was due to her own nomination for music awards.

The actress was nominated for the award for Best Audiobook, Narration and Recording for her audiobook version of Big Tree, by Brian Selznick; award that Michelle Obama finally won for The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times. A nomination that is not at all the first time, because Streep has been nominated up to six times in the past.

An award that could have been added to his extensive track record, in which he already has three Academy Awards, eight Golden Globes and three Emmy Awards; which places him within a short distance of becoming one of the illustrious list of EGOT (artists who have won the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony), which until now only consists of 19 people, such as Audrey Hepburn, John Legend, Viola Davis or Elton John.
