The Portuguese Betis midfielder William Carvalho went on Tuesday to testify as an investigator before the Investigative Court number 9 of Seville after the complaint filed by a woman for an alleged crime of sexual assault.

The footballer went to the Seville courts after nine o’clock and entered them through a side door to avoid the numerous media that were waiting for him. Carvalho, who was interrogated for half an hour in the company of his lawyer, declared that “the relations with the complainant were consensual.”

The investigation against the 31-year-old player is based on a complaint filed by a young woman with whom he had a relationship last August in Seville. According to OK Diario, both went to dinner together and later stayed in a hotel in the city of Seville. The next day, the woman stated that she “woke up with clear signs of violence on her body and without remembering exactly what had happened.” However, she does remember that the Real Betis soccer player “tightly grabbed her neck and forced her to perform fellatio,” as indicated by the media mentioned above.

The judge has called Carvalho to testify due to a possible risk of flight, since the footballer is on the exit ramp and is currently negotiating his transfer to the Turkish Besiktas (the transfer market in Turkey closes on Friday, 9 February). For his part, his current club, Real Betis, with which he has a contract until June 2026, has not made any comments on the matter and is awaiting the final verdict.
