Spectacular solar halo this Tuesday on the beach of Gavà, in the Baix Llobregat, captured for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia. We hope that it has been shown announcing the desired rain that is expected for Friday.

The halo is caused by ice particles suspended in the troposphere that refract light, generating a spectrum of colors around the sun (solar halo), although it also happens with the moon (lunar halo).

It is an optical effect in the shape of a disk around the sun and has an iridescent ring on its outer circumference, as seen in the photograph.

The halo is usually seen in cold places, such as Antarctica, Alaska, Greenland, northern Scandinavia, boreal areas of Russia and Canada, although it has also been visible in countries with tropical climates.

In fact, the solar halo can occur anywhere if the right atmospheric conditions exist, as in this case on the Baix Llobregat coast.
