The animalist NGO Animanaturalis has called a protest on Saturday February 17 against the mascletà in Madrid because of the effect it will have on animals and people sensitive to noise.

The rally will take place at 12 noon in front of the Cibeles Palace, headquarters of the Madrid City Council. It will be one day before the Puente del Rey hosts the first mascletà that will be held in Madrid and that for the first time will be held outside the Valencian Community.

“It is terrible that in the 21st century pyrotechnics continue to be promoted knowing that noise affects sensitive animals and people,” argued the NGO, which has insisted that this type of spectacle is a “real ordeal” that can generate “tachycardia.” , tremors, shortness of breath, nausea, lightheadedness, loss of control, fear and even death” of animals.

What they will defend with their protest is “an end to the use of fireworks with noise.” “Respectful and noiseless pyrotechnics are possible,” they guaranteed.

The Madrid City Council has chosen the Puente del Rey because “it meets the necessary technical and safety requirements, in addition to offering one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the capital, at the foot of the Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace.”

The mascletà is within the collaboration protocol signed by the city councils of Madrid and Valencia at the last International Tourism Fair (Fitur) to promote mutual promotion actions. It will be financed by the capital’s City Council.
