If you have a dishwasher, you have probably wondered how the eco mode could use less if it lasts more hours. Sometimes it can last twice as long as other programs, and many people wonder if it is true that it consumes less water and electricity.
Well yes, the answer is yes. Eco programs save between 20-25% of energy and between 10 and 20% of water. This is confirmed by the Institut Català d’Energia, which also details that the water consumption of a dishwasher with the eco program is about 9 liters, while in a normal program it uses about 11 liters.
Normal programs, which are shorter, use more electricity and more water “because they have to heat the water faster and use more water to obtain the same – or similar – results in less time.”
On the other hand, eco programs use less water and allow part of the heat from the wash to be recovered by rinsing or drying.
In the context of the current drought, it is also important to remember that the dishwasher saves water and electricity compared to washing by hand. According to the ICAEN, using the dishwasher uses about 30 liters of water less per day than if you wash the dishes by hand.
Furthermore, to optimize the use of the appliance as much as possible, it is also important to choose the size based on your needs, and to save money you have to start it when it is completely full.
