Cesc Fàbregas announced his retirement from football last summer, when he was playing for Como 1907, in the Italian Serie B. Precisely in this club he has taken his first steps as a coach. Firstly, he was directing the reserve team and, starting in November, the first team as an assistant since he did not have a federation license. Under his leadership, Como 1907 is having a great season (it is third place, two points behind second). The Catalan, interviewed on the ‘Tot Costa’ program on Catalunya Ràdio, analyzed the current situation of FC Barcelona and his debut on the bench.

Cesc Fàbregas has always been a precocious talent. At the age of 16, Arsène Wenger gave him the opportunity to debut at Arsenal, becoming a reference in the Gunner team, with which he played more than 300 games. His career on the bench was not going to be different and, just two months after retiring, Como 1907 announced his hiring as coach of the reserve team, where he was only until November, since at that moment he went on to coach the first team at the age of 36. .

The former footballer, who follows Barcelona’s current events very closely, assures that the decision of Xavi, a former teammate in the Barça team and in the national team, to leave his position in June caught him by surprise because “he is a very positive person, happy, he always wants the best and believes in what he does… if the pressure of this club has been enough for him, it means that the pressure at Barça is very high.”

The one from Arenys de Mar, despite being happy where he is, “because I don’t have excessive pressure”, does not close the door on coaching the culé team in the future, but has clarified that “first I must grow and continue taking steps… . although in the end it is something that cannot be known”.

Fàbregas, when choosing possible candidates for the culé bench, highlights a former Barça player above the rest: Thiago Motta. “I love the football their teams play. It’s not a Barça profile, but you can adapt because you know the home. Motta’s Bologna does things that Barça hasn’t done in recent years.”

Finally, Fàbregas analyzes the Champions League tie that Barça has ahead of it against Naples. “Barça is a little ahead, but Naples has great players. Their problem is that they are not capable of playing two good games in a row. That’s why I think Barcelona is the favorite.”
