Susana Camarero is becoming a key part of Carlos Mazón’s executive, the most prominent political voice of the Valencian Consell after the president. It could be said that the Valencian vice president and Minister of Equality is, in addition, Mazón’s shield when it comes to distancing herself from Vox on issues such as Equality, Diversity or Gender Violence. She sometimes approaches the figure of a spokesperson for the Valencian executive, despite the fact that this role is played by Ruth Merino, who is also Minister of Finance.
The president has been giving it more prominence for some time, and today it has been seen again in the Corts Valencianes. Susana Camarero, with extensive political experience both in the Generalitat Valenciana and in the Government, has today been the person in charge of highlighting the differences with the ultras in terms of diversity and, at the same time, contrasting criticism from the left: “what they What is worrying is that they no longer have the flag of defense of LGTBI groups.”
Vicente Barrera, vice president and Minister of Culture of Vox, yesterday attacked the “Community Pride” campaign sponsored by Carlos Mazón. It was a gesture that tried to mark distance from the PP in Equality policies and that had a clear response from the president that Susana Camarero repeated today: “we disagree with our partners, but we are working on loyalty, the commitment of this government to these groups “It is unquestionable,” said the vice president in the face of criticism from the left.
The PSPV and Compromís had requested Barrera’s resignation due to his “homophobia” or for the president to fire him. But Camarero recalled that at the time of the Botànic “there were also strong internal discrepancies” and criticized that “they were not so clear in denouncing and defending minors when they governed” in clear reference to the minor abused by Mónica Oltra’s ex-husband.
Camarero has a long political career, which began with Zaplana. She was Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality between 2014 and 2016 – during the government of Mariano Rajoy – and has been a deputy in Les Corts and Congress. A lawyer and expert in Equality, she has 25 years of experience in public management.
