The Spanish cinema festival arrives. This Friday marks the 38th edition of the Goya Awards, the awards given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which recognize the best productions of the last year.

20,000 species of bees by Estibaliz Urresola and The Snow Society by J.A. Bayona arrives as favorites to this edition of the Goya Awards, which are being held for the first time in Valladolid and will be marked by the demand for an end to abuses in cinema.

Urresola’s work, a drama about trans childhood, has fifteen nominations, compared to thirteen for The Snow Society, the epic and at the same time intimate vision by J.A. Bayona on the Los Andes air tragedy of 1972.

Also included in this duel are Closing Your Eyes, Víctor Erice’s return to cinema after 30 years, They Know That, a film about the life of comedian Eugenio directed by David Trueba, and Un Amor, the adaptation of the novel by Sara Mesa directed by Isabel Coixet.

More musical than ever, the Goya gala will feature performances by Amaia, David Bisbal, Estopa, María José Llergo, India Martínez, Niña Pastori, Silvia Pérez Cruz and the Portuguese Salvador Sobral.

At the controls of the 38 will be the creators of series such as Paquita Salas and La Mesías, Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, along with a veteran and Goya of Honor 2017, the singer and actress Ana Belén.

The gala of the 38th edition of the Goya Awards will be held this Saturday, February 10, at the Valladolid fairgrounds and will be broadcast live on RTVE starting at 10:00 p.m. It can also be followed live through the La Vanguardia website.
