Georgina Rodríguez and her sister Ivana have marked a before and after in the protection of privacy and personal image, by achieving a judicial victory that will net them 120,000 euros, as reported by ABC.
The sentence, handed down by the Court of First Instance No. 3 of Pozuelo de Alarcón, has ruled in favor of the Rodríguez sisters, condemning several television programs to compensate them for violating their privacy and that of their father, who despite being considered an anonymous person, was exposed in the media without consent.
The origin of the conflict lies in the dissemination of information and photographs that crossed the line of the personal, touching on sensitive topics such as her father’s past and aspects of Georgina’s life before fame, which came to her when her relationship with her became official. Cristiano Ronaldo.
In this sense, the judge in charge of the case has highlighted the transformation in Georgina’s popularity, emphasizing that her public relevance in 2018 was not comparable to the current one, and that the scant mention of her previous life in the documentary Yo soy Georgina does not justify the invasion of his privacy.
Specifically, the television programs involved have been fined 70,000 euros for invading Georgina’s privacy, plus another 50,000 euros for affecting the privacy of her father, Jorge Rodríguez. The latter, despite having had problems with justice in the past, is not considered a public figure, which has reinforced the argument of the violation of his fundamental rights.
Georgina’s lawyer, Mario Bonacho, from Averum Abogados, has highlighted this ruling as a before and after in the defense of the privacy of public figures, arguing that constant exposure on social networks does not nullify the right to privacy, although this right is adjusted differently compared to people outside the public eye.
This ruling not only sets a legal precedent for future similar litigation, but opens a new chapter in Georgina’s battle to protect her personal and family history. With the intention of reinforcing this protection, an appeal has been filed before the Provincial Court of Madrid, which seeks to expand the media shielding of his life and that of his family. If she wins, we will only be able to talk about Georgina once she starts dating Ronaldo.
