The world of television continues to reveal the financial ins and outs of its most popular programs. On this occasion, it is the former Survivor contestant, Omar Sánchez, who has shed light on the juicy amounts that are handled behind the scenes. In a revealing interview on the Helado Oscuro podcast, Sánchez broke down not only his own salary but also those of some of his colleagues on the 2019 edition of the famous reality show.
The Canarian shared details of his experience on the Honduran island, where he faced tough tests along with a list of names that included Marta López, Agustín Bravo, and the winner Olga Moreno, among others. But what has captured the public’s attention is not only the drama and exploits of the competition, but also the money that moved behind the scenes.
According to Sánchez’s statements, his salary ranged between “between 7,000 and 12,000 euros a week”, a figure that far exceeds what many could earn in months of conventional work. But Omar wasn’t the only one to benefit from the program’s generous payments; He revealed that his colleagues also received succulent sums, with the minimum stipulated at “2,000 euros per week” and the maximum reaching “15,000 euros per week.”
Sánchez pointed out that not all the money mentioned reaches the pockets of the participants. More than 40% goes to taxes, leaving a considerable fraction on the way. Additionally, each contestant must negotiate with her representative the percentage she will receive after all deductions.
For Anabel Pantoja’s ex-husband, who entered the contest with just “1,000 euros in the account” after investing in his business, the sum offered by ‘Survivors’ represented a unique opportunity. “I was never going to see that money,” she confessed. But beyond the economic aspects, the former contestant also highlighted the emotional value of the experience, describing it as unique and transformative.
“We were skeletal. People ask you if they give you a sandwich from behind, but no, they don’t give you anything, what they are seeing on television is what it is,” he confessed. “Once you go out and eat you would return to that experience, because you know you are not going to live it again,” she concluded.
