The Civil Guard and the National Police, in a joint operation, have dismantled a network of pimps in the province of Barcelona that sexually exploited women in homes.
As reported this Tuesday by both police forces, the plot carried out its activity in two “brothel apartments” located in Manresa and Mollet del Vallès, where six victims were forced to engage in prostitution 24 hours a day.
As members of this organization, ten people have been arrested for the alleged crimes of human trafficking, against the rights of foreigners, related to prostitution, against public health, against moral integrity and criminal organization.
The network recruited victims in South American countries, especially Paraguay, deceiving them with false job offers and then forcing them into prostitution in Spain to pay alleged debts.
The women were confined in inhumane and unhealthy conditions in the “brothel floors”, where they had no freedom of movement and were even controlled with video surveillance cameras. In addition, drugs were trafficked and they were forced to consume narcotic substances.
The criminal organization had a solid hierarchical structure, with a man and a woman at the helm, who directed the recruitment, transfer and exploitation of the victims.
In the searches carried out, 13,000 euros in cash, 18 telephones, drugs and documentation linked to the exploitation were seized. The released women are being cared for by the NGO Apip-Acam Foundation.
The investigation has been directed by the Investigative Court number 3 of Manresa and carried out by the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Vizcaya and the Central Unit of Immigration Networks and Documentary Falsities of the National Police of Barcelona.
Agents continue working to clarify all aspects of this case, not ruling out new arrests. At the moment, the detainees have been brought to justice and are in provisional detention awaiting trial.
