Prince Harry and Meghan Markle launched a new website on Monday night with the domain Sussex.com that includes their biographies and lists their recent activities. This page replaces Archewell.com, the site and name that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex used until now to communicate the activities of their foundation and their content production company.
The couple already used the name SussexRoyal before leaving for the United States, and since their resignation they have not been allowed to continue using that name. The reason given then was that it was evident that a British royal title should not be used for commercial purposes away from the influence of the British royal family. And this new name that Enrique and Meghan are using for their website presents the same problems. Since, again, the use of his title and his royal coat of arms for commercial purposes could provoke complaints from the British.
Sources close to the couple have been quick to assess the name change on their website. “Prince Harry and Meghan are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That is a fact. It is their surname and the name of their family,” they assured British media. This online rebranding by the Sussexes comes amid speculation that they may be looking for new production companies to work with. Thus, this name variation could respond to a relaunch of their image, although they continue to resist not having an official Instagram account.
The new website, with hyperlinks to the Archewell Foundation and Archewell Productions, also has a hyperlink to the controversial SussexRoyal website, which is outdated with images of when Harry and Meghan attended official events and which still features the text “serving the monarchy and honoring the reign of her majesty Elizabeth II”.
Prince Harry’s new biography references his 10 years of service in the United Kingdom’s armed forces and as the author of the New York Times bestseller Spare, “a memoir of his life told with compassion, vulnerability and unflinching honesty.” Meanwhile, Meghan’s references her advocacy work, her career in the entertainment industry as a lead role on the television series Suits, and as the author of the New York Times bestselling children’s book The Bench and Together: Our Community. Kitchen.
This relaunch of their personal brand comes ahead of the couple’s trip to Canada for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 One Year to Go celebrations and following the prince’s trip to the UK to visit his father following the announcement that King Charles III suffers from cancer. Archie and Lilibet Diana’s father traveled from Los Angeles to London for a 45-minute private meeting with his father, believed to be the first in 16 months, since Harry traveled for Elizabeth II’s funeral. The Duke of Sussex also traveled to the United Kingdom for the coronation and to testify at London’s supreme court in a privacy case, but on that occasion he did not visit any family members.
