The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested two men aged 30 and 39 in Figueres for transporting more than 1,000 kilos of copper cable that had been stolen.
The officers asked the two men for invoices for the cut copper cables and asked them where they had gotten all that material, but neither of them gave a credible answer to the police.
The agents found the van in Pont de Molins, in Alt Empordà (Girona), while they were checking that no illegal dumping occurred.
When the two detainees saw the Mossos d’Esquadra they turned violently and fled. This caused the police to chase them until they were arrested and there they discovered that they had the copper hidden under a rug.
The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested the two men for a crime of reception. After stopping the van in which the detainees were traveling, the police asked them for the reason for the sudden maneuver they had made when they saw the police car. Both men gave incoherent and unbelievable answers.
That’s why the agents asked them to show them what they were carrying in the back of the vehicle. They found tires, rims, electric scooters and other pieces of scrap metal. At the bottom there was a carpet and 1,000 kilos of cut copper cable were hidden underneath.
Upon discovery, the police asked the two men to accompany them to the Figueres police station. There, they asked them to prove where all the material they were carrying came from and to show them the corresponding invoices, but it was not possible.
The detainees had no criminal record and have been brought to justice.
