Family and friends of Alicia Conesa, who died on the 8th, gave 21,990 euros this week to the Incliva Health Research Institute of Valencia for research into triple negative breast cancer. The amount donated was raised through various initiatives such as the sale of “solidarity hats”, promoted by this woman who had been diagnosed with the disease in January 2022.
According to this health research institute of the Generalitat Valenciana, Conesa had contacted Incliva in January 2024 to convey its interest in opening a solidarity campaign to make triple negative breast cancer visible, one of the most aggressive, and obtain funds for research about this disease.
The funds were raised between 2023 and early 2024, but she had not been able to deliver them personally to Incliva and it was her partner who contacted the Valencian institute at her express wish in the last moments of her life.
In her fundraising campaign, Alicia promoted the sale of hats, which is a very common type of clothing for women undergoing breast cancer treatment. The hats were handmade with crochet that, due to logistical limitations, could not be done online, but rather they were carried out in Molina de Segura, the town where she lived, and in Murcia and surrounding areas.
In addition, funds were raised at the “Sombrero Solidario” charity gala, which was held on January 16 at the Romea theater in Murcia and with the sale of her own book titled All with me (Editorial Cuadranta, 2023) about her personal story with a triple negative breast cancer. The ‘All with me’ campaign will remain open, according to her family and friends, as a tribute to Alicia, since they intend to continue her work.
At the meeting held in Valencia in which the funds raised thanks to Alicia’s campaign were delivered, friends and family were received by Vicente de Juan, managing director of Incliva, and by doctors Juan Miguel Cejalvo and Marta Tapia, from the Grupo de Research in Biology in breast cancer at Incliva, dependent on the University Clinical Hospital of Valencia.
