A third elderly woman has died, who had to be admitted to the La Paz Hospital, in serious condition, after the fire that occurred in the Aravaca nursing home this weekend, according to TVE channel 24.
This is the third victim of the fire, which was predictably caused by a mobile phone battery burning. In the accident itself, two women died almost instantly.
The Community of Madrid was relocating the users of the Juan XXIII Residence in Aravaca to other nearby centers, although some relatives chose to take their elders home.
The fire originated in a room on the second floor for reasons that the National Police continue to investigate.
According to sources from the Ministry of Social Affairs, the residence has forty places, 36 of them arranged. At the time of the fire it was occupied by 38 elderly people.
Five of the users were transferred with their families and another fifteen will be transferred yesterday afternoon to the Reina Sofía public residence, in Las Rozas.
Of the sixteen who are in different hospitals due to smoke inhalation, four who are at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation will also be transferred to the Reina Sofía residence when they are discharged, expectedly yesterday afternoon.
For the other eleven who remain under observation in different hospitals, and who do not go with their families, their transfer is planned to this same residence in Las Rozas and to the Nuestra Señora del Carmen public residence, in Madrid, when they are discharged.
