Amateur sports experienced a new and regrettable episode of violence last weekend. This time it was in Móra la Nova, specifically in the sports center of the Tarragona municipality during a futsal match between the local team and Futsal Tortosa.

The match had to be suspended due to incidents that occurred on the court and then led to the stands between players, coaching staffs and rival fans, with fights and blows and flying chairs that left several people injured, although none of them were seriously injured. The tension on the court caused some players to go up to the stands and commit attacks. There were two complaints to the Mossos d’Esquadra with reports of injuries.

The police received the notification around six in the afternoon on Saturday, February 17, and went to identify the attackers at the Móra la Nova municipal pavilion. The town council has “strongly” condemned the events. “Football is a space for fun and camaraderie and not for confrontation and aggression,” he emphasizes. “We ask all fans to enjoy the match in a respectful and peaceful manner,” the statement concludes.

The Catalan First Division match was suspended when the score reflected 6-6, a few minutes from the end, as reflected in the minutes of the Catalan Football Federation.
