The Mossos d’Esquadra are looking for the pilot of an unidentified drone that this Saturday sent the air traffic controllers at El Prat airport into a tailspin for an hour.

Several workers notified the control tower that they had seen a drone hovering in the area where the planes take off. Although the device was outside the airport, the dangerous situation forced all takeoffs to be canceled and some flights to be diverted for 40 minutes.

For this reason, several planes waiting to land spent a good time circling over Barcelona. The Mossos activated their drone unit to locate the device and the pilot, but they did not find either one.

The owner of the drone had not reported the activity. The police remind that flying a drone near an airport is not prohibited, but it is mandatory to notify it to coordinate it with the aircraft routes. And they add that failing to comply with the regulations can lead to penalties of up to 225,000 euros.
