Teresa Ribera agreed this morning with Carlos Mazón to a working group with the affected autonomies to define the new “rules of exploitation.” Position that Carlos Mazón appreciated: “The new rules will be negotiated from multilateralism, not from unilaterality.” The first meeting will be held next week and technical guests from the executives of the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia and Andalusia are invited. Even the executive from Extremadura could participate, who also drinks from one of its Tagus basins.

This has been one of the agreements reached between both political leaders in the meeting that both, and their respective teams, have held in the ministry. An appointment that the Valencian president requested after the call that the minister made to him to request support for the transfer of water from the Sagunt desalination plant to Barcelona in June if the drought situation persists. In this regard, Carlos Mazón commented at a press conference that this water transfer to Catalonia will be carried out “with all the environmental guarantees for the Valencian coast” and that it is an emergency solution “from water solidarity and for local use.” , in reference to the fact that it will be used only for human consumption.

They have also agreed to activate an “Emergency Plan” for La Albufera that will mean having an established prevention protocol for the natural park. In addition, the Minister of Ecological Transition has agreed to allocate 10 cubic hectometers (Hm3) of water to La Albufera to complement the 10 Hm3 provided by the Acequia Real del Xúquer. With this objective, both have committed to “scheduling” water deliveries.

The minister stressed that this “does not mean changing the ecological flows agreed upon by the Government or modifying the hydrological plans”, but it does “agree, depending on the volume of water from the Tagus, what amount or another corresponds to be transferred, and what It’s the way it’s determined.”

Another key agreement is the Government’s commitment to support the so-called “hydrogen cluster” of Castellón, which has the investment of the company BP. “We are fans of green hydrogen and this cluster must be launched as soon as possible,” said Mazón.
