The Provincial Court of Madrid has sentenced a babysitter to 15 years in prison accused of trying to beat to death in 2018 an almost two-year-old girl whom she was caring for in a home in the Madrid capital.
The sentence, to which EFE had access this Tuesday, considers R.D. author of a crime of attempted murder for which this sentence is imposed, to which are added six years of supervised freedom, a restraining order of 500 meters from the minor for 20 years and the payment of compensation of 18,000 euros to the family.
The court applies mitigating circumstances to the penalty for undue delays due to the three-year period of suspension of the procedure since the events took place. The mitigating factor for repairing the damage has also been considered since the defendant, who has declared herself insolvent, paid 3,000 euros in compensation.
The Court declares it proven that the accused, in charge of caring for the minor and her two brothers since 2016, hit her with an unidentified blunt object on February 28, 2018 when she was alone with the minor.
He adds that around four-thirty on March 13 of that year, the accused, being alone with the girl, hit her again on the head, either with some object or against some object or surface, knowing the high probability of causing death. death.
The tests performed on the minor in the emergency room diagnosed a fracture in the left side of the skull, bruises on the head and right cheek, edema and a broken vertebra.
The minor was immediately admitted to a resuscitation unit of the neurosurgery service in order to be able to monitor the evolution of her life-threatening injuries for two months and was discharged on March 19, 2018.
The convicted woman had already been in provisional prison since last November 29, following a request from the prosecutor who alleged that there was a risk of escape.
