Israel’s conflict in Gaza has provoked a wave of reactions worldwide, rarely seen before war actions of such magnitude. Millions of people have clashed on social networks and other media, condemning the actions of the army commanded by Benjamin Netanyahu or those of Hamas, while the terms terrorist, Zionist, Nazi and other expletives appear almost daily on timelines.

The confrontations have spread to other areas of social interest, such as the world of music. One of the most recent and compelling has occurred between two icons of contemporary rock: Roger Waters and Bono. The founding bassist of Pink Floyd attacked the leader of U2 after some words that the Irishman gave this past Sunday at a performance, referring to one of the most serious incidents of the conflict.

It was during a concert at the Sphere in Las Vegas, where Bono spoke about the renewed conflict on October 7: “In light of what has happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about no to violence seems even ridiculous, even mocking, but our prayers have always been for peace and non-violence… You already know where our hearts and our indignation point, so sing with us… and with those beautiful children at that music festival.” .

Those were his words before performing Pride (In The Name of Love), one of his classic hymns to peace to which they also changed the lyrics to remember the attack on the festival that went around the world. “Early in the morning, October 7, the sun is rising in the desert sky… Stars of David, they took your life but they couldn’t take your pride,” was the variation proposed by the Irish singer in Las Vegas.

This movement caught Waters off guard, always positioned against Israel since this last section began. Regarding what happened, the Briton was forceful through an interview on Al-Jazeera, where he was invited this past weekend to analyze the situation in the Middle East: “My mother told me that, when faced with difficult problems, the first thing What you have to do is read, read and read. Then the next step is easy: do the right thing!”

“Anyone who knows Bono should go grab him by the ankles and shake him… until he stops acting like shit. We have to start telling these people how disgusting and degrading their opinion is… standing up for the Zionist entity… What he did a couple of weeks ago at the Sphere in Las Vegas, singing about the Stars of David, was one of “the most disgusting things I have ever seen in my life,” he responded.
