The controversy that arose around Inés Hernand’s behavior on the red carpet of the last edition of the Goya Awards, held in Valladolid on February 10, continues to cause a lot of talk. The president of the RTVE Interactive Media News Council, Óscar López Canencia, announced today his irrevocable resignation through a statement and on his social networks.
As explained in said statement, the decision had been made as a result of a ”disagreement with the RTVE Play editorial staff” over the writing that was published days ago about Inés Hernand’s behavior on the Goya red carpet and because ‘ ‘the distrust of some editors towards the council”. ”I have resigned. I believe it is my duty when a gap opens between an elected official and those he represents,’ she wrote on her X (Twitter) profile.
However, Óscar López Canencia has not been the only one to leave his position in the public corporation. The other two members of the RTVE Interactive Media News Council have also resigned from their current position. Santiago Riesco presented his resignation last Saturday, February 17, for reasons totally different from those of the president of the council. The third member, Alejandro Vega, who joined the council just two months ago after the resignation of Pelayo Prieto, presented his resignation a few days ago along with López Canencia.
”Trust must be towards the entire representative body, which exercises its functions by delegated mandate, not ad personam. Votes must translate into trust. If this lack of trust is added to the fact that RTVE Play colleagues do not feel represented by our actions or think that they are left out of the decisions, it is time to step aside and let others recover that trust. ”, wrote the former president of the council.
After all the controversy generated, the RTVE News Council itself published a statement in which they wanted to clarify certain information that was circulating through different media and where they confirmed that the three members of the council had delivered their resignation letters.
The content creator was in charge of broadcasting everything that happened on the red carpet of the awards through PlayZ, on RTVE Play. However, a brief meeting with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, caused a barrage of criticism both on social networks and in the public corporation itself. And the content creator approached the leader of the PSOE to ask him about the great favorite of the night, The Snow Society. After a few brief words from the President of the Government, Inés Hernand said the following: ”You are an icon, President, we love you.”
The content creator’s statements were not well received among a large part of the public and in a matter of minutes social networks were flooded with criticism of the influencer’s attitude. Such was the impact of the controversy that the audiovisual group itself released a statement days later in which they regretted the behavior of the “external collaborator” during the live broadcast and criticized “the flattering tone towards a President of the Government.” ‘.
After all the media commotion, Pedro Sánchez himself came out in defense of the content creator through his social networks, where he published the phrase ”Inés Hernand, you are the icon” along with a video compilation of her coverage.
