The second day of testing at the Sakhir circuit left Carlos Sainz as the main protagonist. The Ferrari driver set the best time of the day, well ahead of the rest of the drivers. Although this is not significant yet, it is great news that fuels the hopes of the Italian team. However, as happened the day before, the Red Bull, this time with the Mexican Checo Pérez at the wheel, was once again very consistent on the track.

The day has been a great emotional boost for Carlos Sainz. After learning that Ferrari will not renew his contract, the Madrid native wants to vindicate his figure. To start he clocked 1m29s921, seven tenths faster than Checo Pérez and just over a second than Lewis Hamilton.

The Briton also has reasons to be happy after the disappointing Mercedes debut with George Russell. Hamilton was consistent, but he was not as consistent as Lance Stroll, seventh in the afternoon but with great pace on long runs. Great news for Aston Martin and for Fernando Alonso, who enjoys a faster pace and less degradation from Mercedes in these days of testing.

Of course, the Aston Martin seems a step behind both Red Bull and Ferrari, the real surprise so far in the training tests. McLaren is also emerging in the fight with the Silverstone team.
