There are already five towns in Lleida to which the Ministry of Health has informed that it is prohibited to drink tap water, or use it for cooking, due to the appearance in the analyzes of nonylphenol, a chemical product used in industrial detergents that since Last September it was included in the analytics.

In Sorpe, a village in the municipality of Alt Àneu y Peramea, in the municipality of Baix Pallars (Pallars Sobirà), three towns have joined this Jewish year: Rialp and Alins, in the Pallars Sobirà and Massalcoreig, in the Segrià.

On Wednesday, the Lleida Provincial Council announced that it would pay urgently the costs of supplying drinking water to the municipalities of Alt Àneu and Baix Pallars. Today sources from the institution have announced that they will do the same in the three towns where nonylphenol has appeared.

Given the strangeness of the appearance in populations that are not fed by the same network, Health will carry out counter-analysis of samples from the five municipalities in a different laboratory than the one that carried out the first analyzes to accelerate the results, which will hopefully be available in a week. . The samples in which nonylphenol appeared were taken in January.

Mayors of the towns have expressed their concern about the impossibility of drinking tap water while they have closed the drinking water sources in the municipality.

“In accordance with the Provincial Council and the Catalan Water Agency we have prohibited the consumption of water for drinking and cooking tomorrow (this Friday) we will organize a distribution of water jugs to supply people, if we do not do it this way in the store There will be no water from the town,” says the mayor of Massalcoreig, Josep Maria Vallès.

The mayor of Rialp, Gerard Sabarich, who made a statement yesterday afternoon so that the residents of the town were informed, regrets the time they will have to go without drinking from the tap. “We are going very fast and if everything goes well, we will be without a week and in Rialp, with hotels and second homes we will be about a thousand people.”

The new water control regulations expand the spectrum of analysis with four new emerging contaminant parameters (two associated with drugs and two other cleaning products). In addition to nonylphenol, estradiol, azithromycin and diclofenac are included.
