A devastating fire burned down a residential building in Valencia in just a few hours this Thursday, February 22. This incident, which has resulted in more than a dozen injuries, has become the unfortunate protagonist of the television schedule and temporarily altered other television programs, such as TardeAR or GH DÚO.

From the set of the well-known Telecinco reality show, just after the introductory music gave way to silence, Marta Flich took a moment to address the viewers with a message of solidarity and support for the victims of the fire. “I would like to say on behalf of the entire team that our heart, our nostre cor, is in Valencia,” she said.

The presenter, who is precisely from Valencia, has not missed the opportunity to thank the emergency services for their bravery and dedication in being able to quell the flames and save the neighbors trapped by the fire. “All our solidarity with those affected, with the injured. A huge hug. Thank you for the work of the firefighters, police, EMU, health, all services. A huge hug to the entire Valencian Community, which must be having a terrible night,” Flich has shared.

Despite the tragedy, the communicator reminded the audience of the importance of continuing with the program, emphasizing the role of entertainment in complicated moments like this: “We are with you! But we, on nights like this, also have to “entertain and here we are connected with current events. And we are going to try to entertain you.”

Four hours after it started, the fire has not yet been controlled and continues to affect the building. Emergency teams, including the Valencia firefighters, the Military Emergency Unit, the Red Cross with psychological support, the Emergency Coordination Center and the police, continue to work tirelessly.

Although it is not yet known exactly what caused the fire, there are suspicions that it may have started due to a short circuit. The strong wind and the building’s construction materials could also have contributed to the fire spreading so quickly.

This fire is already considered the largest in the history of Valencia. Never before had such a large building been consumed by flames in the city. The last event of comparable magnitude was the fire at the Plaza de Toros in 1946, not counting the bombings of the War. In all of Spain, the most similar memory is the fire at the Windsor Tower in Madrid, in 2005.
